So @georgiaweidman who i adore for her brains, spoke out about an assault that happened to her while she was in poland.

I am so glad many, but not all, people are supportive of her

When i have attempted to speak out about assault (not as severe as hers, but still assault) at DEFCON and other events on reddit and other forums i have been shut down, said i was overstating etc.
people have blatantly said since they never have seen it or experienced it, it hasn't happened.

these are people i know, i liked, and their response is the reason i keep quiet and just put up with this kind of thing.

speaking out like she did helps, and she's getting the horrible backlash our victim blaming culture responds to people with, and it hurts me

Last year i went on a tear - before the ADA shit - about women in tech, sexism, etc
many of my friends, female, took the it hasn't happened to me approach, and that hurt
even on a panel (rats and rogues) some people didn't think it was a big deal
i wanted to dispute it, but i felt alone, i was countered and dismissed on twitter and elsewhere constantly

i gave up
i am silent
but it happens repetitively

some stats from studies i have read
not many people are rapists, but rapists are usually repeat not single time offenders
people rarely believe, and often blame, the victim
rape is under reported, and rarely falsely reported
rape is rarely successfully prosecuted

i want to scream, i want to cry

i hate this planet and i want off
